Where to fish in Malaysia / Selangor / Palace of the golden horses trip

Picking up from the weekend interlude, my trip to lake next to the SerembanMelaka highway was a rather tame affair. We caught three common cat fishes and we released them at the end of our campaign there. They were at an edible size though so that did not damage our pride so much.

Thing about fishing from very wild areas versus paid ponds is that in the wild you’ll never know what you’re going to get. Fishes come in every shape and size and it all boils down to skill and technical know how in order to land the big ones. Some people take  pride in what they catch from a paid pond.

However I feel this experience is as fake as a hooker’s smile.

There are many versions and myths to what this particularly large body of water in Serdang used to be. Some say this used to be a granite quarry, while others claim this to be that this is an old tin mining area in Sungai Besi. All we know is that this is one kick-ass place to fish. The mass is so huge that we feel that we have barely caught 1/30th of what fish species that might live here.

However fishing at the main lake is very illegal. I would warn you against braving the gaps between the fences and fishing there. Risking getting caught is definitely not worth it. What we do is go to the lesser lake which is situated right next to the big lake. This is situated right next to the abandoned building project next to the Sapura building.

This place is right next to the Sri Kembangan Toll. If you see the giant crab you might be going to far.

What you need to do is turn into the parking lot before the entrance of the Palace of the Golden Horses. Follow that road till you come to a parking lot. Park your car right next to the abandoned building and make your way by foot across a field which is approximately the size of a football field.

The only charge you will incur is that of the parking fee.

Here are some visuals of the type of environment you will be fishing in. The water is super clean and the fish taste good too.

Like any good car park this place is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, all year around. Please dont be shy about trying your skills or taking a trip there.

Word of advice though is to visit after midnight. You wouldn’t want to tangle your lines with the water taxies.

Regards,

SK
